Blog post: Running the Numbers on NHL Goalie Pulls
For hockey fans, it’s a familiar story. As the clock runs down in the final (3rd) period, teams losing by a goal or two will look to pull their goalie and send out an extra skater in their place.
But how often does this risky move result in success? It’s an interesting problem, and one that lends itself nicely to bayesian statistics.
If bayesian stats piqued your interest, or if you want to know when NHL teams should be pulling their goalies (at least, as per my model) then check out the new post!

Quote of the week
“My life has been filled with terrible misfortune, most of which has never happened”
- Michel de Montaigne
I heard this today on the Pure Light podcast, a show that’s helped make me stronger emotionally.
We’ve all dealt with our fair (or unfair) share of actual misfortune, i.e. in reality. But how much have you put on yourself? The quote addresses the real impact of fear that, in many cases, is never even manifest.
How much of the things that haunt you are imagined and how many are real? Why are you so worried about a perceived future that’s yet to be realized?
-Alex
